NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The ULM Warhawks hit .280 in the final three sets and rallied from a 1-0 deficit to knock off Stephen F. Austin, 3-1 (22-25, 25-17, 25-15, 25-22) in front of a packed house on Tuesday at Shelton Gym.
The loss kept SFA (3-1) to its second consecutive 4-0 start and marked the second straight season ULM (2-2) has taken a match from the Ladyjacks after losing the previous 34 consecutive times in the series.
SFA was unable to take advantage of 18 Warhawk service errors, getting outblocked 14-4 and committing 32 attack errors on its way to hitting just .035 for the match. Jill Ivy led the Ladyjacks with 12 kills on the night and Madison Hanlan had 17 digs, but SFA struggled against the ULM front line throughout the evening, never hitting better than .093 in any of the four sets.
Samantha Morse led ULM with 11 kills and seven blocks, in addition to eight assists.
The Ladyjacks fed off the crowd of 527 in the first set, holding ULM to .000 swinging for the set and never trailed to jump out to a 1-0 lead. But things went downhill from there as SFA hit just .018 in the final three sets, including a rough third set in which they hit just -.154.
SFA will try and get back in the win column this weekend when it travels to North Dakota for three matches, beginning Friday against Green Bay. The Ladyjacks will follow that up with matches against South Dakota and North Dakota.
