NEW ORLEANS, La. - Stephen F. Austin distance runner Adam Saloom was recently named to the USTFCCA all-academic track and field team.
Saloom turned in an all-conference performance in the 5,000-meter run at the Southland Conference outdoor championships in May after just missing out on a steeplechase title with a second-place finish the day before.
That came on the heels of a second-place finish in the 5,000-meter run at the conference indoor championships
He was the top runner on the men's cross country team in 2011, placing 33rd at the NCAA Southwest Regional meet in Waco after coming in as the top finisher for the Lumberjacks in all but one of their meets last season.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, student-athletes must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Saloom was one of just five student-athletes from the Southland Conference to earn the honor.
