FRISCO, Texas - Freshman Elena Kordolaimi has been named Southland Conference women's tennis player of the week announced league officials Tuesday afternoon. It marks the second-straight week that an SFA player has received the honor (Alina Shazhko).
Kordolaimi went 3-0 in singles and doubles competition as the team extended its program-best win streak to 14 consecutive. Kordolaimi guided SFA to victories over McNeese State and Louisiana Tech, while playing at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles.
Kordolaimi led a charge against Missouri that nearly resulted in a win over the nation's No. 68th ranked team, but SFA fell just short in an emotional match, 4-3, that saw four of the six singles matches go three sets. After dropping the opening set to Missouri's Nina Pantic, Kordolaimi rallied for a 2-6, 7-5, 7-5 win over the UCLA transfer.
Kordolaimi is second on the team with a 21-6 (.778) overall record, and is 15-4 (.789) during the spring. The 43rd-ranked SFA women's team returns to action Thursday to host Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The match against the Islanders is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
