FRISCO, Texas - Junior Antonia Kolovou has been named Southland Conference Player of the Week announced league officials Tuesday afternoon. Kolovou received the weekly superlative based on her efforts to help SFA claim a 4-3 victory over Mississippi State Sunday. It is the first time in her career that Kolovou has received the award, and the second time this season that SFA has been honored.
A former junior college All-American at Tyler Junior College, Kolovou won the deciding match at No. 3 doubles to give the 'Jacks the doubles point at Mississippi State. Kolovou carried that momentum into singles play where she recorded the first singles victory of the afternoon. SFA took a 2-0 lead behind Kolovou's dominant 6-1, 6-0, victory at No. 5 singles.
The 'Jacks won five of the first six matches to take a 4-0 lead before the Bulldogs cracked the scoreboard. The win was team's fifth straight pushing SFA to 7-2 (.778) on the season.
SFA returns to action Friday, Mar. 2, when they travel to New Orleans, La., to take on Tulane.
