
SFA Tennis Closes Out FGCU Invite

FT MYERS, Fla. - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team closed a tough opening week of the 2012 spring schedule Monday afternoon at the FGCU Hilton Garden Inn Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla. SFA opened the tournament following consecutive matches against Florida Atlantic and No. 69 Illinois.
The Hilton Garden Inn Invite consisted of some of the nation's top teams, and was made up of eight flights of singles and doubles. In addition to SFA and tournament host FGCU, the field consisted of Miami, North Florida, Wichita State, Florida Atlantic, North Texas, Iowa State and Northwestern State.
Junior Antonia Kolovou was the top performer at the invite posting a third-place finish in the flight 5 singles competition. Kolovou bested FGCU's Gyanna Mandic, 6-2, 6-0 to advance to the semifinals. Kolovou took North Florida's Simona Weymar to a third set before bowing out, 6-2, 1-6 10-2. In the third-place match Kolovou defeated ISU's Meghan Cassens, 6-3, 7-6.
SFA will be back in action Jan. 21, when they travel to Fayetteville, Ark., to face Louisville. The match against the Cardinals is slated to begin at noon.
