NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Coming off one of the most successful seasons in program history, the Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team will open the 2012 season Saturday at the Texas A&M Invite in College Station, Texas. The invite will host a 10-team field that consists of Texas A&M, Baylor, North Texas, Prairie View A&M, Sam Houston State, TCU, Texas State, Texas Southern and Texas-Arlington.
Track events will get under way at noon with the running of the men's and women's 60-meter hurdles. Field events will begin 15 minutes later with the women's long jump. The Texas A&M Invite will be a scored event, but teams will align with teams from their conference to compete against other conferences.
The Ladyjack swept the Southland Conference triple crown last season taking the conference title during the cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field seasons. The Lumberjacks closed out the 2011 campaign by capturing their first ever outdoor title.
SFA is under the director of head coach Phil Olson who is in his 14th season at the helm of the track and field program. During that time, SFA has won a total of 19 conference titles in cross country and track and field, and Olson has been named conference coach of the year 11 times.
