FOR STARTERS: After picking up a win in the Southland Conference opener against Southeastern Louisiana, SFA gets its first weekly double-dose of league play this week when it takes on two of the top teams in the league from one year ago in Central Arkansas and UTSA.
LAST TIME OUT: Ashlee Mells came off the bench to score a career-high 19 points and Porsha Roberts established a career high with 14 points (all in the second half) to take down SLU, 69-61 .
vs CENTRAL ARKANSAS: After winning 5 of the first 6 meetings, the Ladyjacks dropped both games against the Sugar Bears last season, including a loss in the first round of the SLC Tourney. UCA (11-3, 1-0) looks to once again be one of the top teams in the SLC.
vs UTSA: SFA leads the all-time series against the Roadrunners (32-10) but lost both games against UTSA last season. The Roadrunners have struggled out of the gate and ride a 3-game losing streak entering play Wednesday.
COVERAGE: Wednesday's game vs UCA can be followed on Gametracker at www.sfajacks.com, and watched via SFA All-Access at www.sfajacks.com. Fans can listen live to Saturday's game against UTSA on Q 107.7 FM with James Dixon on the call. Live stats will be available at www.goutsa.com.
UP NEXT: SFA has just a single game on the slate next week, hosting UT Arlington on Saturday, Jan. 21 at 6 p.m.
MELLS EXPLODES OFF THE BENCH: After averaging just 2.8 point per game through the first 13 games of the season, junior forward transfer Ashlee Mells came off the bench to give SFA a much-needed offensive spark by scoring a career-high 19 points. Mells hit 6-of-8 shots from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point territory, and also snagged a career-high four steals.
ROBERTS POSTS CAREER-HIGH: After a frustrating first half in which she only played only two minutes because of foul trouble, freshman forward Porsha Roberts exploded for a career-high 14 points in the second half on 4-of-5 shooting and 6-of- 6 from the free throw line. If Roberts can stay out of foul trouble she has all the potential to be one of the top Freshman of the Year candidates.
MARION DIALING LONG DISTANCE: Senior guard Tammara Marion, who became SFA's all-time leader in made three-pointers earlier this year, is now 20th in the country in three-point field goals per game (2.8) and 20th in three-point percentage (41.9). Marion actually has a higher FG percentage from long distance than her regular FG percentage (34.0). As a team SFA ranks 35th in the nation in three-point field goals per game (6.8).
HALFWAY THERE: Out of their 14 games played, the Ladyjacks have taken a lead going into halftime on nine occasions and have won all nine of those contests. SFA has outscored their opponents 434-391 in the first 20 minutes of games, limiting opponents to just 27.9 points in the first half. Tammara Marion, who is averaging 14 ppg, is averaging 9.1 points in the first half.
PARTY IN THE CUSA: With their back-to-back wins over Rice (68-64) and SMU (66-60), and their win over Southern Miss earlier this season, the Ladyjacks have defeated three Conference USA squads in a season for the first time since the 2006-07 campaign when SFA knocked off Southern Miss, Louisiana Tech and Tulsa.
