
Meek Joins Track and Field Coaching Staff

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dess Meek has been named Stephen F. Austin jumps coach announced head coach Phil Olson Wednesday afternoon. Meek comes to SFA following a standout career at Sam Houston State, where she received multiple conference and national honors. A three-time NCAA qualifier, Meek earned All-Southland Conference honors five times during her career and a was a four-time team MVP.
"We are thrilled to have Coach Meek join our coaching staff for the upcoming season," Olson said. "She comes to us from an outstanding track and field program at Baylor University, and will make an immediate impact assisting Coach Ron McCown in coaching the jumping and multi-events athletes."
In addition to her success as an athlete, Meek served as an assistant to the Student Academic Advisor and Assistant Athletic Director at Sam Houston. She also was a success in the classroom earning Academic All-SLC honors, named to the Dean's List and FCA Athlete of the Year. She received her bachelor's degree from Sam Houston State in December 2009.
Following her career at SHSU, Meek transferred to Baylor where she competed for two years. During her time in Waco she earned All-Big XII honors and was named to the Academic All-Big XII team. Meek is on pace to graduate with her Master's degree in sports pedagogy in December.
