NEW ORLEANS - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack track and field team was honored by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for its academic success during the 2010-11 season.
The Ladyjacks were one of 164 teams in the country to maintain at least a 3.0 grade-point average this past season, but SFA wasn't just a success in the classroom. The SFA women are in the midst of one most dominant runs in Southland Conference history. The Ladyjacks have won the past three indoor and outdoor conference titles, and this past season SFA swept the conference triple crown winning the cross country, indoor and outdoor conference titles.
SFA has had five athletes earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, and senior Amy Shackelford received Capital One Academic All-America recognition in June. A former SLC Student-Athlete of the Year, Shackelford recorded a stellar performance at the 2011 conference outdoor championships winning the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. It was the second time in her career that she has won both titles at the meet.
