RICHMOND, Va. - Former Lumberjack outfielder Bryson Myles was named to the second team all-America squad by CollegeBaseballInsider.com on Thursday, marking the sixth all-America team Myles has been named to following his record-setting 2011 season.
Myles was one of three outfielders selected to the second team along with Dallas Baptist's Jason Krizan and College of Charleston's Daniel Aldrich. He was the only Southland Conference player selected to either the first or second teams, while Texas A&M-Corpus Christi's Matt Holland and Texas State's Carson Smith were each honorable mention selections.
The outfielder from Grand Prairie, Texas, was named the 2011 SLC Hitter, Player and Newcomer of the Year after leading the SLC in batting average (.411), on-base percentage (.484), runs scored (69) and hits (99). He also led the nation with 53 stolen bases.
Myles was selected in the sixth round of the Major League Baseball draft with the 188th overall pick by the Cleveland Indians following a season in which he led the 'Jacks to a second place finish in the league and the program's first appearance in the title game of the SLC Tournament.
The Indians currently have him assigned to the Class A Mahoning Valley Scrappers of the New York-Penn League where he is hitting .313 with a homer, 10 RBI and 10 stolen bases in 19 games.
