KILGORE, Texas - A pair of Lumberjack baseball players have been selected for the upcoming Texas Collegiate League All-Star game, league officials announced on Monday, with SFA shortstop Hunter Dozier and infield signee Freddy Villalobos slated to take part in the summer league's midseason game.
Dozier, who has been playing at third base for the Pump Jacks, will be part of the North team and is one of a league-high 11 all-stars from the East Texas Pump Jacks' roster. He earned his way onto the squad thanks in large part to a hot bat over the last two weeks. He batted .412 with a .522 slugging percentage two weeks ago to earn TCL Player of the Week honors, driving in six runs and scoring three more. He then batted .400 and slugged .500 last week with six runs scored and four RBI. His eight steals on the season are tied for second on the team.
Meanwhile, Villalobos will start for the South squad at second base after leading the league with nine doubles in addition to his .285 average, three homers and 16 RBI for the Victoria Generals. He has put together 10 multi-hit games this season, including picking up at least two hits in three of his last five games.
Villalobos, who signed in the fall to join SFA for the 2012 season, played the last two seasons at Weatherford College where he most recently led the Coyotes in nearly every offensive category as a sophomore hitting in the cleanup spot in the order. He lead the team with a .413 batting and a .628 slugging percentage to go along with 26 doubles, seven home runs, 49 RBIs, and 49 runs scored on his way to being named first team all-NTJAC and to the all-Region V team.
For the second straight year, the TCL will use the familiar North-South format for the All-Star Game. The Alexandria Aces and the Coppell Copperheads will join East Texas on the North side. The South squad will consist of host the Bravos Valley Bombers, the Acadiana Cane Cutters and the Victoria Generals.
The 2011 Cricket Wireless TCL All-Star Game will be played on July 18 at Brazos Valley Bank Ballpark in Bryan, Texas. The contest will be preceded by the Brazos Bingo Home Run Derby, which was won last year by former McNeese State slugger Lee Orr.
