TOWSON, Md. - Less than 24 hours after earning Academic All-Southland Conference honors, senior distance runner Amy Shackelford has been named second-team Capital One Academic All-America. Shackelford was one of 15 athletes to earn a 4.0 grade-point average.
To be eligible for the Academic All-America team, athletes must maintain a 3.30 GPA, reached sophomore academic standing and be a starter or significant reserve.
Shackelford has been a key figure in the Ladyjacks historical run over the course of the past three seasons, culminating in the program's most dominating year in 2010-11. She helped guide SFA to the Southland Conference track and field triple crown by winning the league's cross country, indoor and outdoor track and field titles this season. It also marked the third-straight indoor and third-straight outdoor title in program history.
Shackelford wrapped up her career by duplicating her performance on the track as a sophomore. She guided the Ladyjacks to the outdoor title by winning the women's 5,000-meter and 10,000-meter runs last month on her way to being named SLC Female Outstanding Track Perfomer.
