FRISCO, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin cross country/track and field teams placed nine athletes on the 2011 Southland Conference All-Academic team announced league officials Wednesday afternoon. The Ladyjacks had six athletes honored, while the SFA men placed three on the team. SFA garnered five automatic selections, and six athletes were making at least their second appearance on the all-academic team.
Senior Adam Wolfe, junior Xavier Rodriguez and sophomore Adam Saloom represented the `Jacks, while seniors Kaitlyn Andrews, Megan Jenkins and Amy Shackelford, and junior Danielle Burchett, Macy Wade and Randi Wymer represented the Ladyjacks. The six SFA women, and the nine total athletes were the most of any Southland school.
To be nominated for the academic all-conference team athletes must maintain a 3.0 grade point average, have completed at least one full year of study prior to the current year of competition and have competed in at least 50 percent of all meets.
The 2011 class not only excelled in the classroom, but on the track and field as well. The Ladyjacks recorded a track and field triple crown in 2010-11 winning conference titles in cross country and indoor and outdoor track and field, while the Lumberjack men won the 2011 SLC Outdoor Championships, marking its first outdoor title in program history. The Lumberjack victory helped SFA lock up the men's all-sports trophy for a second consecutive season.
