NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Senior Amy Shackelford and junior Danielle Burchett have been named to the 2011 Capital One Academic All-District team. Both athletes received first-team honors.
The duo helped guide SFA to its third consecutive outdoor track and field title, and their sixth consecutive title overall. The SFA men and women swept the 2011 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field titles.
Shackelford, who maintained a 4.0 grade-point average in secondary education, was named the 2011 SLC Outstanding Track Performer following her dominant performance at the conference championships. Shackelford repeated her performance from the 2009 outdoor conference meet by winning the 5,000 and 10,000-meter runs. She led an SFA sweep of the top three spots in the 5,000-meter race.
Burchett was just as dominant on the track and she was in the classroom. She recorded a 3.78 GPA while pursuing a degree in professional accountancy, and was a key figure in the Ladyjacks run to another title. Burchett clocked a time of 2:10.18 to win the women's 800-meter run. She followed up her first career SLC individual title by helping the Ladyjacks record the conference's 1,600-meter relay outdoor title.
