
SFA Advances Four Athletes on Opening Day

EUGENE, Ore. - Junior Mary Dickerson was one of four Stephen F. Austin athletes to advance on the opening day of the NCAA West Region preliminary meet in Eugene, Ore. SFA advanced two 400-meter sprinters and two throwers Thursday evening.
Dickerson advanced to the quarterfinals with her time of 54.45, while freshman Cass Brown clocked a 47.23 to advance with a 20th-place finish. Senior Adam Wolfe advanced in the men's javelin throw with a mark of 220-1, which is his second-best throw of the season. Junior Jon Arthur was just as strong in the men's shot put with his throw of 57-1.50 to finish 14th overall.
Senior Kaitlyn Andrews placed 21st in the women's shot put with her throw of 49-8.25. Freshman Jamal Peden finished 35th overall in the long jump with his mark of 23-3.75. Seniors Amy Shackelford and Megan Jenkins competed in the women's 10,000 meters. Shackelford clocked a time of 35:14.19, while Jenkins crossed the line with a time of 36:49.01. Sophomore Crystal Walker placed 19th overall in the women's long jump with her mark of 19-6.
The SFA men and women will be back in action Friday beginning at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. The track events are slated to get under way at 3 p.m. with the women's 100-meter hurdles.
