AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team closed out the final day of competition at the Texas Relays with their strongest day of the week. The SFA men and women posted several more top-10 finishes, including school records in the men's shot put and 110-meter hurdles.
Junior Jon Arthur recorded a fourth-place finish in the men's shot put with his school record toss of 60-3.00. Senior Kaitlyn Andrews, who set the school record in the women's shot put earlier this season, was equally impressive. Andrews just missed a personal best throw in a very strong field (51-4.25) to finish eighth overall.
Junior Nick McCloud continues to show why he is one of the top hurdlers in the nation. The Tyler, Texas, native clocked a time of 13.61 in the 110-meter hurdles to finish sixth overall and set a new school record. He was the top collegiate finisher, and is currently among the nation's leaders.
Several events finished late Friday evening that included SFA athletes. Among those events the Lumberjacks posted a top-10 finish in the invitational section of the 1,600-meter sprint medley relay. The team of Hampton Hawkins, Cass Brown, Josh Taylor and Jonus Rodriguez finished ninth overall with a time of 3:26.73. The SFA men also clocked a top-10 finish in the 4X1,500-meter relay. The team of Adam Saloom, Nathan Collier, Dennis Yeats and Xavier Rodriguez clocked a time of 16:06.91 to finish seventh overall.
SFA returns to action Thursday when they will send several athletes to Walnut, Calif., to compete in the Mt. SAC Relays. The rest of the track and field team will be in Natchitoches, La., to compete in the NSU Invitational.
