Series Notes & What To Watch For:
- Entering last season the `Jacks were working with with one of the least experienced teams in the Southland, sporting the second-lowest amount of returning players in the league, ahead of only UT-Arlington; however, this year is a different story as there is no team in the Southland with more returning players than the Lumberjacks. SFA is sporting a league-high 22 returners, including all three of its top weekend starters from a year ago. No other team in the Southland can boast to such, as each of the other 11 teams in the league lost at least one piece of their top three starters from last year.
- The Lumberjacks were recognized by the league before the start of the season when the all-conference teams were announced as SFA had three players land on the team. Last year's league ERA leader Tyler Herriage was a first-team selection, while center fielder Garrett Smith and first baseman Darren Crabtree were automatic selections to the second team. Smith finished seventh in the SLC last year with a .368 batting average, while Crabtree led the `Jacks with 10 homers and was second with 49 RBI.
- SFA took both midweek meetings against the Trojans in Little Rock last year, but this is will mark the first time since 2006 that UALR has visited Nacogdoches. UALR was the first opponent for SFA when the school reinstated the program in `06.
- Zack Taylor is scheduled to get the start in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader, and will be looking to repeat a breakout performance against the Trojans last season. In his first career road start a year ago, Taylor picked up his first win and fanned eight UALR hitters in 5.1 innings of a 7-3 SFA win.
- The `Jacks have won four of their five home openers since 2006 with the lone loss coming to Houston in 2009. They are also 2-3 in season-opening games since `06, and swept Grambling in a three-game series to begin 2010.
