NEWS AND NOTES
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (14-2-1, 8-0-0), winners of 12 straight and having not lost since Aug. 26 at Tulsa, travel to Natchitoches, La. where they will be the No. 1 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Ladyjacks have a first-round bye and will wait to play the winner of No. 4 UTSA/No. 5 Southeastern La. Friday at 7 p.m. If they were to advance, the Ladyjacks would play in the championship game Sunday at 1 p.m.
Tournament History: SFA is 6-8-2, all-time, in the Southland Conference Tournament. The Ladyjacks have reached the postseason 13 times, the second-most tournament appearances in the league. SFA has never missed the Southland Tournament in its current six-team format. The Ladyjacks have reached tournament play in each of the last nine seasons with two championships and a 5-4-2 overall record during that stretch. SFA won the 2003 tournament and the 2007 tournament, both times playing as the No. 2 seed. Each of the Ladyjacks' last three tournament appearances have ended in ties that ended in defeat following shootouts.
Last Time Out: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks won their 11th straight match and in the process clinched at least a share of the Southland Conference regular season title with a 6-0 victory over Nicholls State at the SFA Soccer Complex. The victory tied the 1995 Ladyjacks team that also reeled off 11 straight victories. SFA (13-2-1, 8-0-0) can break the record next Friday at home in the regular season finale against Sam Houston State.
UTSA Series History/Scouting Report: SFA leads the all-time series against UTSA (4-2-3) and defeated the Roadrunners 3-0 in September in San Antonio. In that contest Chelsea Raymond score all three goals for a hat trick, one of three such performances this season by the Southland Conference Player of the Year. The Roadrunners won for out of their last six contests down the stretch.
Southeastern Louisiana Series History/Scouting Report: SFA leads the all-time series against Sam Houston (14-9-7) and won this year's showdown in Nacogdoches, 4-0. Four different Ladyjacks scored in that game and Kylie Louw had two assists en route to her single-season and career assists records.
SFA 10th in NCAA Regional Rankings: For a second straight week the Ladyjacks check in at No. 10 on the NSCAA Central NCAA Regional Rankings, behind Oklahoma State (1), Memphis (2), Texas A&M (3), Baylor (4), Central Florida (5), Kansas (6), Texas Tech (7), Texas (8) and Missouri (9).
Top Offense In the Nation: After three more goals against SHSU last Friday, the SFA Ladyjacks still rank first in the nation in scoring offense with 3.41 goals per game, ahead of both Texas A&M (2nd- 3.37) and Stanford (3rd- 3.05). SFA has scored three or more goals in 11 matches and has 58 goals overall this season, the most in school history.
Going Streaking: With their win over Sam Houston State this past weekend, the Ladyjacks pushed their win streak to 12 straight games, breaking the old school record formerly held by the 2005 team that won 11 consecutive games.
One Victory Away From Greatest Season Ever: The Ladyjacks won their 14th game this past Sunday, which is good enough for the second most wins in a season in SFA history. With a win on Friday they would match the 2003 team that went 15-5-2, the most wins in a single-season in school history.
Louw Third All-Time In Points: With her goal last Friday, Kylie Louw is now tied for third all-time in program history with 68 points with former Ladyjack Kendra Cannon. She is now only one point away from moving into second place with Shahin Pabani.
Home Is Where The Wins Are: SFA now holds an all-time record of 89-36-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 58-9-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 34-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
Nine Wins: With their win over Northwestern State on 10/9/11, SFA clinched yet another season with at least nine wins and another winning season. It marks the ninth consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program's eighth straight winning season.
