NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Following an impressive road trip to start conference play 2-0, Stephen F. Austin freshman Chelsea Raymond was named the Southland Conference Women's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week, while junior teammate Breanne Vernon was named defensive player of the week and sophomore Lacey Lee was selected as goalkeeper of the week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Raymond, from Irving, Texas (MacArthur HS), scored all three goals in a 3-0 victory at UTSA for the first hat trick of her career. It marked the second consecutive game that Raymond recorded six points and she now leads the team with seven goals while helping the Ladyjacks win five straight matches. For Raymond, the award is the first of her young career.
Vernon's steady play on the backline led Stephen F. Austin to two more shutouts and has anchored a defense that has allowed the fewest goals in the league. The Calgary, Alberta (Ernest Manning HS), native, played all 180 minutes of action and helped limit UTSA to two shots on goal and Texas State to four. The award is Vernon's first of the season.
Lee recorded two shutouts for her third and fourth of the season this past weekend in conference play. The Bedford, Texas (Euless Trinity HS), native, collected five saves and helped her team to an impressive 1-0 victory at Texas State last Sunday. The Goalkeeper Player of the Week award is her second this season and third of her career.
The Ladyjacks (7-2-1, 2-0-0) will look to extend their win streak this weekend when they host Central Arkansas on Friday, followed by Northwestern State Sunday afternoon.
