GAME INFORMATION
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (13-2-1, 8-0-0), winners of eleven straight and having not lost since Aug. 26 at Tulsa, host Piney Woods rival Sam Houston State (9-4-1, 3-2-0) Friday evening at the SFA Soccer Complex in the final regular season match of the year. SFA, with a win, will clinch their seventh Southland Conference Championship.
Last Time Out: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks won their 11th straight match and in the process clinched at least a share of the Southland Conference regular season title with a 6-0 victory over Nicholls State at the SFA Soccer Complex. The victory tied the 1995 Ladyjacks team that also reeled off 11 straight victories. SFA (13-2-1, 8-0-0) can break the record next Friday at home in the regular season finale against Sam Houston State.
Sam Houston State Series History/Scouting Report: SFA leads the all-time series against Sam Houston (8-2-0) but lost last year's matchup 2-1 in Huntsville. Prior to last season SFA had won the previous four straight in the series. The Bearkats are led offensively by sophomore midfielder Tricia Mallory, who is the team-leader in goals (7) and assists (4). SHSU has actually been outscored (31-28) this season.
SFA 10th in NCAA Regional Rankings: A week after receiving votes as one of the top teams in the NSCAA Central NCAA Regional Rankings, the Ladyjacks made their first appearance in the rankings on Tuesday, coming in at No. 10 in the central region behind Oklahoma State (1), Memphis (2), Texas A&M (3), Baylor (4), Central Florida (5), Kansas (6), Texas Tech (7), Texas (8) and Missouri (9).
Top Offense In the Nation: After 10 more goals in two games this past weekend, the SFA Ladyjacks now rank first in the nation in scoring offense with 3.44 goals per game, ahead of both Texas A&M (2nd- 3.39) and Stanford (3rd- 3.18). SFA has scored three or more goals in 10 matches and has 55 goals overall this season, tied for the most in school history.
Lucky 11: With two more wins this past weekend, the Ladyjacks pushed their win streak to 11 straight games, nine of which has been shutouts. The current winning streak is tied for the best in school history with the 2005 team that won 11 consecutive games en route to a 2005 SLC Championship.
13 Wins: The Ladyjacks won their 13th game this past Sunday, which is good enough for the third most wins in a season in SFA history. With a win on Friday they would match the 2005 team that went 14-4-0 and would be only one win away from tying the 2003 team that holds the record with 15 wins (15-5-2).
Team Records Shattered: With all their success this season, records were bound to break for the Ladyjacks and indeed they are happening at a rapid pace. This 2011 squad has set new team records in points (154), assists (44), assists per game (2.75), shutouts (12) and has tied the record for most goals in a season (55) with the 2004 team.
Raymond Breaks Records: Freshman Chelsea Raymond became the all-time leader for goals in a season with three more on Sunday and now has 17 for the season. She also set a new team-record for points in a season with 39.
Raymond/Vernon Named SLC POW: For the second time this season Stephen F. Austin freshman forward Chelsea Raymond was selected the Southland Conference Offensive Player of the Week while Breanne Vernon was named the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Home Is Where The Wins Are: SFA now holds an all-time record of 88-36-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 57-9-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 33-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
Nine Wins: With their win over Northwestern State on 10/9/11, SFA clinched yet another season with at least nine wins and another winning season. It marks the ninth consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program's eighth straight winning season. The last time an SFA squad failed to reach the nine-win plateau was 2002, also the last time the Ladyjacks posted a losing season (7-9-4).
Title Town: The SFA women's soccer program has brought an unprecedented five Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 13 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
