GAME INFORMATION
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (11-2-1), winners of nine straight and having not lost since Aug. 26 at Tulsa, return home after a successful road trip in Louisiana to host Southeastern Louisiana (9-4-1, 3-2-0) Friday and Nicholls State (6-7-1, 0-4-0) on Sunday.
Last Time Out: Chelsea Raymond scored a goal in the 10th minute and the Stephen F. Austin defense made it stand as the Ladyjacks won their ninth consecutive match with a 1-0 victory over Lamar Sunday afternoon.
Southeastern Louisiana Series History/Scouting Report: SFA leads the alltime series against Southeastern Louisiana, 13-9-7 but are 0-2-2 in the last four matches in the series. Last season SFA dropped a road game at Southeastern, 2-1 and will be looking for their first win over the Lions since 2008. The Lions have the second-most potent offense in the nation, just slightly ahead of SFA at 3.29 goals per game. SLU is led by Maiya Cooper (27 points- 11 goals) and Kelsey Salcido (28 points- 10 goals) and have one of the nation’s leaders in assists in Karly Dagys (11 assists). Both of the Lions’ conference losses have been 1-0 setbacks.
Nicholls State History/Scouting Report: SFA holds a commanding 18-1-2 series record over Nicholls and have either won or tied the last 16 matches. SFA won at Nicholls (3-0) last season. Kristy Tatom is the team leader in all three major offensive categories with six goals, two assists and 14 points.
Winning Streak Goes To 9: With two more wins this past weekend, the Ladyjacks pushed their win streak to nine straight games, seven of which has been shutouts. The current winning streak is the second-best in school history and SFA is now two wins away from tying the 2005 team that won 11 consecutive games en route to a 2005 SLC Championship.
Utter Domination: The Ladyjacks are well on their way to completing the biggest goal differential season in school history. Thus far they have outscored their opponents 45-6 and 21-0 in conference play. The lowest amount of goals SFA has ever allowed in a single season is 14 in 2005. They Ladyjacks are fifth in the nation in shutout percentage (0.821) and ninth in the country in goals-against average (0.422). They have not allowed a goal since their 1-1 tie at Louisiana Tech on Sept. 9, 2011.
Explosive Offense: After 6 more goals in two games this past weekend, the SFA Ladyjacks now rank third in the nation in scoring offense with 3.21 goals per game, trailing only Texas A&M (3.63) and Southeastern La. (3.29). SFA has scored three or more goals in eight of their 13 games played and have outscored their opponents 45-6 on the season and even more impressive, 21-0 in conference play.
Louw/King Named SLC POW: After two more impressive road shutout victories this past weekend, the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks received good news on Tuesday when the Southland Conference announced junior midfielder Kylie Louw was selected the Co-Offensive Player of the Week while senior defender Jordan King was tabbed the Defensive Player of the Week.
Home Is Where The Wins Are: SFA now holds an all-time record of 86-36-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 55-9-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 31-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
Nine Wins: With their win over Northwestern State on 10/9/11, SFA clinched yet another season with at least nine wins and another winning season. It marks the ninth consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program’s eighth straight winning season. The last time an SFA squad failed to reach the nine-win plateau was 2002, also the last time the Ladyjacks posted a losing season (7-9-4).
Title Town: The SFA women’s soccer program has brought an unprecedented five Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 13 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
