GAME INFORMATION
This Week: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks (9-2-1), winners of seven straight and having not lost since Aug. 26 at Tulsa, hit the road after a successful homestand to play McNeese St. (7-6-0. 2-1-0) Friday and Lamar (6-5-1, 3-0-0) on Sunday.
Last Time Out: The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks won their seventh straight match and remained perfect in conference play with a 5-0 victory over Northwestern State Sunday afternoon at the SFA Soccer Complex.
McNeese State Series History/Scouting Report: SFA leads the all-time series against McNeese St., 19-6-3 and have won five straight in the series. The Cowgirls won both their conference matches last weekend on the road against Nicholls State (2-0) and Southeastern La. (1-0) and have won five of their last seven contests. Six of McNeese’s seven wins have been via a shutout. They are led offensively by Sarah Lalanne, who is tied for the team-lead in goals (5) and has the most assists (4) and points (14).
Lamar Series History/Scouting Report: SFA has never lost to Lamar and leads the all-time series 4-0-0. The Lady Cardinals have won three straight 1-0 decisions, including wins at SE Louisiana and Nicholls last weekend. Kimmy Albeno leads the way offensively with five goals while Kristin Bos has a team-leading five assists.
Louw Breaks Assist Record: Junior midfielder Kylie Louw recorded her 23rd career assists in the Ladyjacks 5-0 win over Northwestern St. to become the all-time assist leader in program history. Louw’s assist came on Chelsea Raymond’s goal in the fifth minute, helping her surpass Christie Mestayer (22 assists) as the new all-time leader. Louw is currently ninth in the nation with eight assists this season and sixth in the country in assists per game (0.73).
Shutout Streak: With a 5-0 win over Northwestern State on Sunday, the Ladyjacks accomplished a new school record with their fifth consecutive shutout of the season. The previous record was four straight shutouts, which occured in each of the 2003, 2004 and 2005 seasons. The Ladyjacks have already recorded eight total shutouts in 2011, the third-best mark in a single-season, and are three shy of tying the 2005 team that had 11 shutouts.
Explosive Offense: After 11 more goals in two games this past weekend, the SFA Ladyjacks now rank second in the nation in scoring offense with 3.25 goals per game, trailing only Texas A&M (3.47). SFA has scored three or more goals in seven of their 12 games played and have outscored their opponents 39-6 on the season and even more impressive, 15-0 in conference play.
Stingy Defense: Along with the shutout streak, the SFA defense is turning into one of the nation’s best. SFA ranks 8th in the nation in shutout percentage (.667), 10th in save percentage (.885) and 11th in goals against average (.491). Individually, sophomore goalkeeper Lacey Lee is 15th in the nation in goals against average (.541) and 20th in save percentage (.867).
Home Is Where The Wins Are: SFA now holds an all-time record of 86-36-12 in home games, but that mark is even better at the current venue. Since moving from Homer Bryce Stadium to the SFA Soccer Complex for the 2003 season, the Ladyjacks are 55-9-5 in home contests. Against Southland Conference foes, SFA is a very tough 31-4-3 at the Soccer Complex.
Nine Wins: With their win over Northwestern State on Sunday, SFA has clinched yet another season with at least nine wins and another winning season. This marks the ninth consecutive season for the Ladyjacks to pick up at least nine victories and is the program’s eighth straight winning season. The last time an SFA squad failed to reach the nine-win plateau was 2002, also the last time the Ladyjacks posted a losing season (7-9-4).
Title Town: The SFA women’s soccer program has brought an unprecedented five Southland Conference regular-season championships back to Nacogdoches. That total is nearly half of the 13 possible regular-season titles in SLC Soccer history.
