NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin women's tennis team finished the SFASU Fall Invitational posting a 7-2 record on the day. The 'Jacks were 4-1 in singles competition and 3-1 in doubles. The women went a total of 13-2 in singles play and 5-1 in doubles for the week, making them 50-4 in the fall.
"It was another successful weekend, and things are really starting to come together for us," head coach Patrick Sullivan said. "Coming back from being down 5-1 and winning seven-straight games to take the A doubles championship against two of the top players in the country was a great way to finish the weekend."
Freshman newcomers Malena Gordo and Elena Kordolaimi shared the B Flight championship title. Sophomore Laura Servise won the E Flight, going 3-0, recording wins over LSU, SMU and TCU.
In doubles, the freshman duo Tereza Bekerova and Gordo dominated play in the A Flight after beating All-American Marta Lesniak from SMU and her partner Edyta Cieplucha. Lesniak has been ranked as high as No. 2 in the country in singles play.
"We still have a lot of work to do to get tougher mentally and physically, but we are certainly an exciting team with incredible potential and it's a lot of fun to be a part of this," said Sullivan.
The women return to the court on October 14, when they travel to Tyler, Texas to compete in the TJC Apache Invite.
