NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Texas native Kewa Nichols has been named Stephen F. Austin assistant tennis coach announced Patrick Sullivan Tuesday afternoon. Nichols comes to Nacogdoches from Wichita State where she has spent the past semester as a volunteer coach with the Shockers.
"I am extremely excited to have a quality coach like Kewa joining our staff," said Sullivan. "As a player she was responsible for handing losses to several teams that I coached, so I know too well what she brings to the table and I'm glad that she's finally on the right side of the net. More importantly, off the court I know her to be an exceptional person who will provide great leadership and guidance to our young team."
Before joining the Shockers, Nichols had a distinguished playing career at TCU, guiding the Horned Frogs to four-straight conference championships and advanced to the 2006 NCAA Sweet 16, the first Sweet 16 appearance in program history. Nichols, and the Horned Frogs, rallied from a set down to defeat Texas in the round of 32.
During her collegiate career, the Horned Frogs dominated their conference with a 33-1 (.971) overall record. As an individual, Nichols was ranked as high as 59th in the country in doubles, and tallied 137 singles and doubles victories during her career.
