
SFA Track & Field Set to Open 2011 Campaign

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Entering his 12th year at the helm, SFA track and field head coach Phil Olson is set to open the 2011 indoor season with meets in Houston, and College Station. SFA will open the season Friday at the Leonard Hilton Invitational Friday in Houston, Texas. The men's and women's team will close out the weekend in College Station Saturday at the Texas A&M Invitational.
The Leonard Hilton Invitational will consist teams from around the region including meet-host Houston, Louisiana Tech, Jackson State, Texas Southern, Houston Baptist, Prairie View A&M, Rice, Texas Wesleyan and Texas, as well as several Southland Conference schools.
The Leonard Hilton meet gets underway with the throwing events at 11 a.m. The track events are slated to get under way at 1 p.m. with the running of the women's 200 meters.
The Texas A&M meet will host several of the nation's top-ranked teams which includes Florida, LSU, Texas A&M, Oregon, Virginia Tech, Florida State, Texas Tech, Penn State, Stanford and Indiana on the men's side, and Oregon, Texas A&M, LSU, Tennessee, Clemson, Arkansas, Auburn, West Virginia, Southern Illinois and Oklahoma for the women.
The meet is being set up as a `Conference Challenge' and will be scored by conference. The challenge will take place between the Big 12, Southland, Sun Belt and Southwestern Athletic conferences. It is slated to begin at noon with the track events.
