CONWAY, Ark. - MC Bottles put up a match-high 16 kills, but the defending Southland champion Central Arkansas Sugar Bears hit .292 and pulled off a 3-1 (25-19, 24-26, 25-17, 25-20) win over SFA on Saturday at the Prince Center.
The win was the 24th in row in league play for UCA (11-6, 3-0) and the fourth in a row over SFA (8-9, 1-1), who struggled offensively, only hitting at a .118 clip for the afternoon.
Bottles was joined in double figures by Arielle Daron, who totaled 10 kills on just 23 swings. Madison Hanlan nearly hit a season high in digs, finishing with a match-high 25, while Allison Gideon finished with 41 assists and six kills.
UCA hit .333 in the first set and used a late run to stake itself to an early 1-0 lead, but the Ladyjacks responded with a win in the second set to tie it up. Bottles had six kills in the set, but it was a kill from Laurel Kuepker that gave SFA a set-point opportunity and Sabrina Burns that finished it off with one of her four kills for the match.
But after the break it was nearly all Sugar Bears as UCA only committed four attack errors in the final two sets compared to 17 by the Ladyjacks.
SFA returns home for its first conference match at Johnson Coliseum on Thursday when they host UTSA.
