SFA Track & Field Opens NCAA Championship First-Round Meet

AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track field team began the first day of competition in the first round of the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships Thursday in Austin, Texas.
Senior thrower Frednisha Marshall opened the competition for SFA in the shot put. She finished 24th overall with a throw of 48-1.75. Sophomore Jon Arthur duplicated that performance in the men's shot put. He also finished 24th overall after recording a throw of 54-10.75.
Junior Arteria Sterns was the first SFA athlete to compete on the track Thursday. She clocked a time of 12.11 to finish 43rd overall in the 100-meter dash. Freshman Joe Barb ran the men's 400-meter dash. He crossed the finish line 36th overall with a time of 47.76 to finish 36th overall. Barb will also compete for the `Jacks in the 4X400-meter relay on the final day of competition. Sophomore Mary Dickerson posted a time of 54.90 to finish 35th overall in women's 400-meter dash.
The second day of action will begin Friday with the men's discus at noon. The track events will get underway at 4:30 p.m. with the men's 110-meter hurdles.
