NACOGDOCHES, Texas - With less than 24 hours until the 2010 Southland Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, the Stephen F. Austin men and women are making their final preparations for the meet. The meet will take place at Maverick Stadium, and will be hosted by Texas-Arlington.
The Ladyjacks are the reigning outdoor champions, a title they won last season in front of their home fans at Fletcher Garner Track. The SFA women have been the league's most dominant team over the course of the past two seasons winning two consecutive indoor titles and the 2009 outdoor crown.
The Lumberjacks will be looking to ride the momentum of a strong finish at the indoor championship meet into the outdoor championships. SFA won the 4X400-meter relay on the final day of the indoor championships to propel itself to a second-place finish in the standings.
The meet will begin at 10 a.m. with opening events of the decathlon and heptathlon. The first field events are slated to begin at 11 a.m. with the women's hammer throw, while the lone track event of the opening day will be the 10,000-meter finals. The women's race will begin at 8:30 p.m., and the men's race is slated to begin 45 minutes later.
