Series Notes & What To Watch For:
- In the all-time series the Bearkats hold a decisive advantage over the ‘Jacks; however, since SFA brought its program back in 2006 it is SFA that has had the majority of the success in the series. The ‘Jacks have won eight of the 12 meetings between the teams in the last four years, including taking two of three from the ‘Kats last season in Nacogdoches. SFA is 4-2 in two series in Huntsville in that span, sweeping the Bearkats in 2006.
- Now that Tanner Hines’ school-record, 24-game hit streak has come to a close it is Jarid Scarafiotti that holds the top active hit streak by a Lumberjack. The sophomore has hit safely in 12 conescutive games dating back to an April 7 doubleheader against UTPA.
- The 2009 series between the ‘Jacks and ‘Kats was a weird one as SFA won a pair of one-run games in to clinch the series. However, due to incoming weather the teams elected to move up Sunday’s game to Saturday for a twinbill and in the first game SFA eeked out a narrow 1-0 win. In that game Jared West managed to work around five walks in just allowing three hits to pick up the win, while SHSU’s Jacob Howard did not allow a single walk but took the loss despite eight strikeouts in eight innings of work. SFA managed to put together a two-out rally in the sixth with Brian Ferguson driving in the eventual game-winning run with a single up the middle.
- Friday night starter Tyler Herriage has been oustanding on the road this season for SFA, going 3-0 in three starts away from Jaycees Field. In those three starts he has held hitters to a .179 average, striking out 21 and walking 12 with a 1.80 ERA.
