
SFA Records Eight Individual Titles at Rice

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team traveled to Houston, Texas Saturday to compete in the Rice Twilight Invitational. SFA walked away with eight individual titles during the meet.
Junior Arteria Sterns recorded an individual title in the women's 200 meters when she clocked a time of 24.17. Sophomore Mary Dickerson was second in the event with a time of 24.81.
Freshman Amahra Edwards won the women's 400 meters clocking a time of 55.84. Teammate Katrina Turner was third when she crossed the line with a time of 57.46.
The Ladyjacks 4X100-meter relay team recorded the third title of the day when the team of Crawford, Sterns, Brittany Shorter and Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye posted a time of 46.31 for the victory. It was a similar story in the women's 1,600-meter relay as the combination of Shorter, Edwards, Lauren Watts and Dickerson clocked a time of 3:41.97 for the title. The Lumberjack relay squads recorded one title, and a runner-up finish. Seniors Chris Moody and Travis Beavers, junior Donavon Sammons and freshman Joe Barb recorded a time of 3:10.18 to win the event. Junior Sherman Rosborough, sophomore Nick McCloud, freshman Whaley Monroe and junior Ty Thomas clocked a time of 41.79 to finish second in the 400-meter relay.
Sophomore Carrie Hahn got the field events out to a great start with her victory in the high jump. Hahn posted SFA's sixth individual title of the day when she cleared a height of 1.71 meters to finish first. Junior Ebbonye Johnson was fifth overall clearing a height of 1.57 meters.
Freshman Josh Cravens recorded a jump of 7.69 meters to win the men's long jump. He was one of two Lumberjacks in the top five. Sophomore Andrew Plentl was fifth overall with a mark of 7.24 meters.
The Ladyjacks placed three in the top six of the 100 meters. Sterns just missed her second individual title with a time of 11.83 to finish second. Camelia Sams was fifth overall with a time of 12.13, while Keila Crawford finished 10 one-hundredths of a second back of Sams for sixth place. Senior Frednisha Marshall came up just short of a victory in the shot put. Marshall recorded a throw of 14.64 meters to finish second in the event. Although she just missed an individual title in the shot put, Marshall returned to the throwing circle to win the women's weight throw. Marshall posted a throw of 51.66 meters in the event to outdistance the competition. Sophomore Jon Arthur was second in the men's shot put. Arthur recorded a mark of 16.54 meters to record the top-five finish.
SFA placed two more athletes in the overall top five of the men's hammer throw. Senior Matt Langdon was second with his mark of 56.92 meters, while Arthur was third (54.10 meters).
SFA was dominant in the men's javelin. Junior Adam Wolfe was second overall with a throw of 56.89 meters. He was followed by Harlan (51.25 meters), freshman Cameron Agnew (50.66 meters) and senior Chris Jones (48.52 meters).
The `Jacks came up just shy of going 1-2-3 in the 400-meter dash. Barb was second overall with a time of 47.29, followed by Moody who was only 44-hundredths of a second off Barb's pace. Sammons finished fifth overall with his time of 47.77. McCloud was one of two `Jacks in the top five of the men's 110-meter hurdles. McCloud finished second with a time of 13.88, while senior Aaron Harlan was fifth (14.58).
Sophomores Sarah Sloan and Kayla Kana cleared a height of 3.20 meters in the pole vault to finish tied for fifth in the event. Egboba-Waye recorded a top-five finish in the women's long jump with her mark of 5.90 meters to place fifth overall. Beavers added a fourth-place finish in the men's 400-meter hurdles. Beavers recorded a time of 53.33 to record a top-five finish in the event. Freshman Marcus Rosendall was fifth in men's high jump clearing a height of 2.01 meters.
