
McCloud Advances as Top Qualifier in the 110 Hurdles

AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team recorded their strongest day of competition Friday at the 83rd Annual Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays.
Sophomore Nick McCloud clocked the meet's top time in the preliminary rounds of the 110-meter hurdles. McCloud posted a school-record time of 13.71 to advance to Saturday's final. Senior Frednisha Marshall posted a similar performance in the women's shot put. Marshall recorded a throw of 48-4.50 to finish third overall.
Senior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye clocked a time of 13.75 to tie for 11th overall in the women's 100-meter hurdles. Egboba-Waye just missed advancing to the finals in the event by four-hundredths of second, and just missed the school record by two-hundredths of a second.
Camelia Sams recorded a mark of 18-8.50 to finish eighth overall in the long jump. Sams returned to action in the triple jump where she posted a seventh-place finish (39-5.75). Sophomore Carrie Hahn also recorded a top-10 finish in the women's high jump. Hahn cleared a height of 5-5.25 to finish seventh in the event. Classmate Jon Arthur finished sixth in the men's shot put with a mark of 51-0.25. Makayla Elliott was fifth overall in the discus (154-8).
The Lumberjacks placed two athletes in the top 10 of the steeplechase. Adam Saloom recorded a time of 9:13.99 to finish fifth overall. Classmate Harmon McClanahan was 10th overall (9:36.68).
The Ladyjacks' team of Keila Crawford, Arteria Sterns, Brittany Shorter and Egboba-Waye posted a time of 46.70 to finish 12th in the 4X100-meter relay. The `Jacks 400-meter relay team (Sherman Rosborough, Nick McCloud, JJ Johnson and Ty Thomas) clocked a time of 41.55 to finish 18th overall.
The Lumberjacks' 4X400-meter relay team qualified for Saturday's finals. The team of Chris Moody, Travis Beavers, Donavon Sammons and Joe Barb clocked a time of 3:11.50 to record the fifth fastest time of the day, and advance to the finals. The Ladyjacks' 1,600-meter relay team of Brittany Shorter, Amahra Edwards, Mary Dickerson and Lauren Watts clocked time of 3:46.30 to place 16th overall.
The SFA track and field team will close out the Texas Relays Saturday for the final day of events.
