Series Notes & What To Watch For:
- SFA has lost six of its last seven games to the Islanders after the `Jacks opened up the all-time series by winning five of the first seven games. The `Jacks dropped two of three games at Chapman Field in Corpus Christi a year ago. The Islanders have been tough offensively against SFA in the last seven meetings, scoring at least seven runs in each of their six wins.
- The last time these teams met was in Nacogdoches in 2008 when TAMUCC left town with three wins over SFA, the last of which was a wild 19-16 Sunday victory. The `Jacks welcomed TAMUCC to Nacogdoches in 2006 as well, holding the Islanders to just one run in two games for a pair of wins.
- Head coaches Johnny Cardenas and Scott Malone go back a ways as they were teammates at TCU during their early 1990s. Cardenas was an All-SWC catcher for the Horned Frogs, while Malone was the Southwest Conference Player of the Year in consecutive seasons on his way to being a ninth round draft pick by the Texas Rangers.
- Tanner Hines got a hit in each game of SFA's series at UTSA to extend his hit streak to 20 games, braking his own school record of 19 games that he set last season. With a hit in Friday's game he will tie McNeese's Jace Peterson for the longest hit streak in the Southland Conference this year at 21 games.
