FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin first baseman Darren Crabtree was named Southland Conference hitter of the week for the first time, conference officials announced on Monday afternoon.
Crabtree put together one of the best weeks in recent memory for a Lumberjack hitter, driving in at least one run in each of SFA four wins on the week. But his week was highlighted by a record-setting 6-for-6 performance at Central Arkansas.
The junior first baseman became the first Lumberjack ever to record six hits in a game, setting another school record with five runs scored and tying the school's top mark with eight RBIs in the game. He had two doubles and a grand slam as part of a 25-hit, 20-run outburst for the 'Jacks and each of his marks stand as the top mark for a single game in the conference this season.
Earlier in the week, he had a double and an RBI in a win at UALR, and just one day before his six-hit effort had a sacrifice fly driving in just one of two runs SFA scored in its 2-0 win over the Bears. He then closed out his week with three more RBIs and a two-run homer on Sunday, finishing with 12 of his 13 RBIs on the week against the Bears alone.
Crabtree is currently third in the league with 21 RBIs for the season and is part of the Southland's top offense, a lineup that currently leads the league in batting average, slugging percentage, home runs and doubles. He and third baseman Bobby Lovelace each went over the 20-RBI mark for the season on Sunday, making SFA the only team in the league with multiple players having more than 20 RBIs.
Crabtree and the 'Jacks will try an improve on its four-game win streak when they close out the season-long road swing Tuesday with a doubleheader at UTPA beginning at 3 p.m.
SFA then returns to Jaycees Field for a league series against Northwestern State on Friday.
