Series Notes
- The `Jacks will be looking to pick up their first win over the Demons at Jaycees Field since the opener of the 2006 SLC series played there - the first time the teams had played since the `Jacks resurrected the program. Since 2006, the Demons have won eight of 11 games in the series overall. SFA got a win in the Warhawk Classic last season over Northwestern State behind 8.0 innings from Brett Rogers in his career debut; however, the Demons made up for that with two wins in Natchitoches in league play less than a month later.
- The `Jacks had won three in a row in the series with the Warhawks from 2007 to 2008, including a two-game sweep in Nacogdoches in 2008, before the Warhawks got revenge in a big way last season. ULM exploded for 24 runs against eight Lumberjack pitchers on Opening Day last season in picking up the win at the Warhawk Classic in Monroe. An 11-run sixth inning fueled the Warhawk win, including a grand slam by all-America shortstop Ben Soignier.
- The last time ULM came to Nacogdoches the Lumberajcks were able to send them back to Monroe with a pair of losses. One of those came in a crazy Tuesday game that saw 17 combined runs scored in the seventh inning. The teams were cruising along in a 3-3 tie going into the seventh inning before ULM exploded for eight runs in the top of frame to take an 11-3 lead; however, the `Jacks exploded for nine runs of their own in their half of the frame to take a one run lead and hang on to the finish for the win.
- This will be the first time that the `Jacks have met the Bluejays on the diamond, however the Southland Conference is not an unfamiliar site for for Creighton. The Jays are 12-17 all-time against teams from the SLC after their 3-2 win over Central Arkansas on Saturday. They also opened last season at Sam Houston State and this year will enjoy their first three weekends of the season at Southland sites as they will travel back to Huntsville next week to take part in Sam Houston's tournament once again.
- Not only will this be the first time that SFA has taken on Creighton, but it will also be the first time that SFA has taken on a team from the Missouri Valley Conference. The `Jacks will get another first-time look at two teams from other conferences next weekend in Norman, Okla., when they take on South Florida and Western Illinois which will mark the first time SFA has ever battled teams from both the Big East and Summit League.
