
Ladyjacks Claim a 4-3 Victory Over Abilene Christian

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Coming off of a 5-2 win against Texas-Pan American last weekend, the Ladyjacks hosted Abilene Christian on Tuesday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
SFA was off a to a slow start dropping three doubles matches, but rallied from behind to win four out of six singles points to take the team match.
Roxana Enica and Alina Shazko fell 8-4 to Dina Paulin and Julian Mangin. Paola Montuenga and Alice Pacaut lost 8-6 to Cassie Carver and Julia Mongin, while teammates Jamie Williams and Meaghan Ocanas were defeated by Hannah Kelley and Lauren White 8-4.
In singles action, freshman Paula Montenegu showed up strong posting an impressive 6-2, 6-0 win over Cassie Carver. Senior veteran Tatiana Smolnikova won over Dina Paulin 6-4, 6-2, while teammate Alice Pacaut also posted a 7-6, 6-0 victory over Natalie Friend. Julia Mongin 6-1 defeated Alina Shazko, 6-1, 6-5, while Sanjana Kapur dropped her match to Hannah Kelley 6-0, 6-1.
Roxana Enica won her singles match over Jaclyn Walker 6-3, 7-6, despite being down 5-2 in the second set. The win ultimately decided the team match and put SFA up 4-3.
"This is my 16th year here and first time to ever beat Abilene Christian," said SFA head tennis coach Bret Arrant. "They are always a top NCAA Division II team. This is a huge win for us and I thought Enica played extremely well coming back from 5-2. However, without contributing wins from Paula, Tatiana, and Elise it wouldn't have mattered. This is a big team victory for us."
SFA will be back in action on Feb. 20 take on Northwestern State in Natchitoches, La. The match is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
