Former ETBU head coach takes over Ladyjack program after successful run with Tigers
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin Director of Athletics Michael McBroom has announced the hiring of Drew Lambert as head coach of the Ladyjack tennis program. The official announcement was made on Friday, June 13. Lambert joins the Lumberjack family from East Texas Baptist University where he guided the Tigers' men's and women's programs.
"We are thrilled to welcome Coach Lambert and his family to SFA," remarked McBroom. "Throughout the search process, he demonstrated that he was the right person to take the reins of our championship tennis program and I couldn't be more pleased that he will be joining us in Nacogdoches. I want to thank Jordan Berry, Bryson Harris and Cardinal Grange for their diligent work as we sought a new leader for SFA Tennis. I know our players and supporters are going to enjoy getting to know Coach Lambert and supporting the Ladyjacks next season as they look to defend their conference championship."
After serving as a graduate assistant and assistant coach for the Tigers over four seasons, Lambert took control of the ETBU tennis programs in June of 2021 following the retirement of Jeff Bramlett who led the programs for eight years.
"I am incredibly excited to lead the women of Ladyjack Tennis and to continue the tradition of winning here at SFA," noted Lambert. "I'd like to thank Michael McBroom, Jordan Berry and Bryson Harris for their faith in me to lead such an accomplished group of women. My goal is to work tirelessly to bring more championships back to Nacogdoches.
This past spring, Lambert's ETBU women produced the program's second American Southwest Conference Tournament title knocking off the league's top two seeds to punch its NCAA Tournament ticket. His women's teams were mainstays near the top of the ASC regular season standings as ETBU notched three-straight regular season runner-up finishes, before placing third in 2025. Over four seasons directing the ETBU women, Lambert's teams won 44 matches (.603) with 11 coming in ASC play.
Lambert coached 36 all-conference performers on the women's side, including nine first-team selections. He tutored an ASC East Division MVP and a tournament MVP, one ASC Newcomer of the Year and one ASC Freshman of the Year. Five players received all-tournament acclaim and on 11 occasions a Tiger earned ASC Player of the Week honors. The ETBU women received an ITA Team Academic honor in each of his first three seasons and are eligible for the award this summer.
In May, Lambert's men upset ASC Tournament host Hardin-Simmons 4-3 to claim the program's first-ever ASC Tournament title and advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time. In 2024, Lambert led the Tigers to the program's first ASC east division regular season title and a program record 15 wins. He was named the ASC East Division Coach of the Year as well as the Wilson ITA West Region Coach of the Year. In four seasons leading the ETBU men, Lambert and the Tigers tallied 45 victories (.569) and won 11 of 16 ASC contests, including 10 of 12 over his final three seasons.
The ETBU men combined for 29 All-ASC honors under Lambert's tutelage. Eight of those selections landed on the first team. Lambert led an ASC Tournament MVP, two ASC Freshman of the Year honorees and one ASC Newcomer of the Year. Nine times a Tiger earned player of the week honors from the ASC and three players earned all-tournament recognition. The Tigers received an ITA Team Academic honor following the 2023 and 2024 seasons.
In all, Lambert's programs combined to collect 89 wins (.586) of which 22 (.688) came against ASC opposition. Additionally, the Tigers defended home court well. Across both programs, ETBU won 28 matches overall and ETBU suffered just four losses in Marshall over his final two seasons.
Lambert is a 2017 graduate of Howard Payne University where he played four seasons for the Yellow Jackets. He received his Bachelor's Degree in Education- Specialization in History from HPU and earned his Master's Degree in Sport & Educational Leadership from ETBU in 2019.
