CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - The Ladyjack volleyball team dropped its fourth consecutive match on Thursday by a 3-0 (25-22, 25-21, 25-22) margin to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Thursday at the Dugan Wellness Center.
The four-match winless streak matches the longest of the season for the Ladyjacks (11-17, 4-9) and with TAMUCC's (12-15, 5-8) win in Nacogdoches, gives the Islanders the tiebreak advantage over SFA in both team's quest for a berth in the Southland Conference Tournament.
Arielle Daron and Leslie Jackson led the Ladyjacks with eight kills apiece, while setter Allison Gideon had 25 assists and a pair of blocks on the night. Melissa Miksch was the only Ladyjack in double figures in digs, putting up 25. As a team the Ladyjacks hit just .088 for the match.
Emma Ridley led all players, putting down 19 scores for the Islanders on 43 swings for a .326 attack percentage. The Islanders swung at a .237 clip for the night.
Despite jumping out to an early 5-1 lead and a 12-7 advantage later in the set, the Ladyjacks could not keep the early momentum going in the first set as the Islanders put together a 9-1 run to take a 16-13 lead midway through the set. From there, TAMUCC did not relinquish that lead and eventually used kills from Ridley and Shannon Hullum, along with a pair of SFA attack errors to close out the set. TAMUCC finished with a .132 attack mark for the set, while the Ladyjacks were hampered by 10 errors and hit just .021 despite three service aces and a pair of blocks.
In the second frame the Islanders caught fire offensively, hitting .371 with 18 kills to take a 2-0 lead. SFA could only put up nine kills in the third set, compared to 17 for the Islanders, who hit a solid .220 and used a four-point spurt to break a 13-13 tie and did not give the lead back to SFA.
The Ladyjacks close out the road portion of their season with a 1:00 p.m. match at league-leading UTSA on Saturday at the Convocation Center.
