FRISCO, Texas - Stephen F. Austin swept all three Southland Conference Soccer Player of the Week awards, according to an announcement Monday from the league office. Laura Sadler shared offensive honors with a player from Southeastern Louisiana, while Jordan King took defensive honors and Lacey Lee picked up a goalkeeper of the week award.
The clean sweep is the first of the season for SFA and marks the second time this year for multiple Ladyjacks to land Southland honors in the same week.
Sadler put up four points over the weekend to earn her second offensive honor. The sophomore from Coppell, Texas, assisted on the game-winning goal in both of SFA's win and scored an insurance goal in the 2-0 verdict over UTSA. She now has six goals for the year, tying the mark she set as a freshman last year. Her four assists give her a career-high 16 points.
King earned her third Southland honor of the season with a strong performance at both ends of the field. Always a scoring threat on SFA's set pieces, she headed home a service off a corner kick in the opening minutes against UTSA for what proved to be the game-winner. That goal is her eighth of the season, breaking what was a three-way tie for the team lead. At the other end of the field, she helped lead a defensive effort that posted two straight shutouts and held Texas State and UTSA to a combined total of four shots on goal.
Lee, a freshman from Bedford, Texas, earned the starting nod in both contests on the final weekend of the regular season. She made the most of her opportunity, putting up her second and third shutouts of the season in only her second and third starts of the year. For the weekend, Lee recorded three saves and faced a total of 21 shots.
SFA's pair of wins on the final weekend netted the Ladyjacks the No. 2 seed in this week's Southland Conference Tournament. SFA will have a first-round bye, opening tournament play on Friday at 4:30 p.m. The Ladyjacks will play the winner of Thursday's game between No. 3 UTSA and No. 6 Lamar. The tournament is hosted by Texas State in San Marcos, Texas.
