NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack tennis team finished the third and final day of the SFA Invitational Sunday at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
Freshman Ksenia Berestetska managed to win her singles draw without dropping a single set. She defeated Northwestern State's Bianca Schilz in the finals of the C draw, 6-4, 6-1. Meanwhile, teammate Alice Pacaut reached the final round of the D draw, but fell short to Amrinette Botha of Sam Houston State, 6-3,6-2.
In the doubles competition, Shazkho and Paola Montuenga fell to the Bearkats Postnikova/Dubyanskaya, 8-4 in the consolation A draw. Meanwhile, teammates Berestetska and Alice Pacaut won both of their matches in the B consolation draw.
"It felt good to have such a strong finish to the tournament and the girls showed a lot of toughness out there after playing 8 matches each in only 3 days," said head coach Patrick Sullivan. "We have come a long way in a short time, particularly in doubles, where things are really starting to come together for us. Obviously Ksenia's accomplishment of winning her first collegiate tournament in only her second try is particularly impressive, but everyone on our team came away with a winning record on the weekend against strong competition so things are definitely headed in the right direction."
The Ladyjacks return to action Friday, October 15th, when they travel to Tyler, Texas, to compete in the Apache Invitational.
