
Marshall Wins Weight Throw at LSU

BATON ROUGE, La. - Senior thrower Frednisha Marshall led an SFA attack at the SFA Purple Tiger Invitational Friday afternoon with her victory in the weight throw. The Tyler, Texas native recorded a throw of 63-11.00 to win the event and record an NCAA provisional standard.
Marshall led a very strong performance by the SFA men and women in the throws. Marshall recorded two of the throwers six top-10 performances Friday afternoon. Along with her victory in the weight throw, Marshall also posted a second-place finish in the shot put (46-11.00). She placed just ahead of junior Kaitlyn Andrews who finished third with a toss of 46-4.25.
Senior Matt Langdon was fourth overall in the men's weight throw with his mark of 61-9.75. Sophomore Jon Arthur also recorded a top-10 finish in the event with his seventh-place throw of 56-1.00. Arthur's best performance came in the shot put. Arthur recorded a toss of 54-1.00 to finish second overall in the event.
The bright spot from the meet may have come from the Ladyjack and Lumberjack jumpers. SFA recorded eight top-10 marks in the three event areas. Camelia Sams recorded two top-10 finishes placing fourth in the long jump (18-10.00) and sixth in the triple jump (38-1.50). Senior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye was sixth in the long jump when she recorded a mark of 18-7.25. Freshman Kelli Hermes was the second Ladyjack to place in the top 10 in the triple. Hermes finished seventh overall with a mark of 37-3.25. Sophomore Carrie Hahn and Ebbonye Johnson led the way in the women's high jump. Hahn cleared a height of 5-5.00 to finish fourth overall, while Johnson was ninth (5-3.00).
The Lumberjack jumpers were led by Marcus Rosendall and Josh Cruse. Rosendall finished tied for fourth in the high jump when he cleared a height of 6-4.25. Cruse placed eighth in the triple (47-8.50).
The Ladyjacks had three athletes record top-10 finishes in the pole vault. Sophomore Sarah Sloan cleared a height of 10-10.00 to finish tied for sixth overall. Classmate Macy Wade also cleared a height of 10-10.00, but finished eighth based on the tie break. Kayla Kana was ninth overall after clearing a height of 10-2.00.
Sophomore Nick McCloud was one of three SFA athletes to finish in the top 10 of the 60-meter hurdles. The 2009 SLC Indoor Freshman of the Year, McCloud clocked a time of 7.97 to finish third overall, while classmate Isiah Collins finished sixth (8.64). Freshman Dezera Dunlap was ninth (9.26) in the women's 60-meter hurdles.
The SFA 4X400-meter relay teams both looked strong. The `Jacks recorded a time of 3:16.83 to finish fifth overall, while the Ladyjacks posted a time of 3:53.56 in the relay.
The SFA track and field team will be back in action Friday when they travel to Houston to compete in the two-day Houston Invite and Multis.
