NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Washington State scored three first-half goals and rolled to a 5-0 win against Stephen F. Austin Sunday afternoon at the SFA Soccer Complex. The Cougars moved to 6-2-0 on the season with their third straight win, while SFA fell to 3-5-0 with the loss.
Washington State got on the board with a goal by Brandi Vega in the 15th minute, then padded its lead in the 27th minute when Emma Stolz found the net. The Cougars took a 3-0 lead to halftime on the strength of a goal by Megan Chapin.
SFA applied pressure early with four shots and two corner kicks in the game's first eight minutes, and Washington State only had a two-shot advantage (8-6) at the break.
But the Cougars poured it on in the second half, out-shooting the Ladyjacks, 14-3, to finish the game with a 22-9 advantage. The aggressive second period yielded a pair of goals for leading scorer Kiersten Dallstream, the first coming in the 72nd minute and the second in the 75th minute.
Junior Camille Royer took two shots -- both on goal -- for SFA, and redshirt freshman Breanne Vernon attempted three shots in the game.
Junior goalkeeper Courtney Bauder (3-5-0) recorded one save with three goals against before giving way to freshman Rachael Stelly for the second half. Stelly posted four saves and allowed two goals.
The Ladyjacks will be back in action Friday, when they travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to take on TCU. The game is set for a 7 p.m. start.
