FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - The Arkansas Razorbacks scored three goals in the game's first seven minutes and would need no more offense than that, as they went on to collect a 3-0 win over the Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack soccer team on Sunday. With the loss, SFA moves to 2-4-0 on the season, while Arkansas remains unbeaten at 5-0-1, continuing the best start in program history.
The loss comes on the heels of a 2-0 win at Missouri State on Friday night, SFA's first shutout victory of the season. Arkansas improves to 2-0-0 all-time against the Ladyjacks, having yet to allow a goal in the series.
Kelly O'Connor got the Razorbacks on the board in the third minute, when she headed home a corner kick that resulted from Arkansas' first shot attempt in the game. Sophie Wentz was credited with the assist on the play.
Allie Chandler gave Arkansas a 2-0 lead barely two minutes later, when she scored with an assist by Beth McVean.
Laurel Pastor set the final score at the 6:19 mark when she scored unassisted.
The Razorbacks registered just one more shot on goal in the first half and only three more in the second period, but the Ladyjacks were unable to find the net.
SFA posted just two shots on goal -- one each by junior Kim Kimmel and freshman Kylie Louw -- and was out-shot, 14-9, in all.
Starting goalkeeper Courtney Bauder (2-4-0) recorded one first-half save to go along with her three goals allowed before being lifted for freshman Rachael Stelly at the start of the second period. Stelly posted three saves in the final 45 minutes of action, tying her career-high for minutes played in net.
SFA will be back in action Friday, when the Ladyjacks take on Houston to open a two-game home stand. That contest is set for a 7 p.m. start from the SFA Soccer Complex.
