NEW ORLEANS, La. - The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjack track and field team has been named a USTFCCCA All-Academic team Keith Nunez, spokesman for the USTFCCCA, announced Friday morning. SFA was one of 131 NCAA Division I schools recognized, and one of only two Southland Conference schools to make the list.
To be nominated for the award teams must maintain a minimum 3.0 grade-point average. The Ladyjacks proved to be strong in the classroom, and on the field of competition. SFA finished the year with a 3.109 GPA, and won the 2009 SLC Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field titles. The Ladyjacks even made a splash at the national level as junior thrower Frednisha Marshall earned All-America honors with her third-place finish in the weight throw.
The Ladyjacks finished the year winning seven individual conference titles and 37 All-SLC honors. The Ladyjacks won three events during the outdoor season, and posted 20 all-conference finishes. Marshall repeated as the SLC Indoor Most Outstanding Field Athlete, while freshman Stephanie Ganter became the first athlete in conference history to be named the league's top freshman in cross country, indoor and outdoor track.
