FRISCO, Texas - Southland Conference officials announced Monday that SFA pitcher Erich Lehmann has been named the league's Pitcher of the Week after throwing six innings with eight strikeouts in his final home start of his career on Thursday.
It is the first weekly honor of Lehmann's career and comes on the same day that he was named to the All-Southland Conference's second team. The now two-time all-conference honoree threw six innings, striking out eight and walking only one as he left with a 3-1 lead against Lamar before taking a no decision.
Lehmann worked at least six innings for the seventh straight game and was in line for his seventh consecutive win before the Cardinals scored six runs in the top of the seventh off the Lumberjack bullpen. The eight strikeouts was just one shy of his career high of nine, and through 13 starts he has still only walked more than one batter in just one single start.
The senior has done most of his work at home this year, going 4-0 at Jaycees Field with a 1.79 ERA. In those 40.1 innings he has managed to strike out 30 and only walk four.
Lehmann will be the starter for SFA as they open up the Southland Conference Tournament on Thursday against league-champion Texas State at 4:00 p.m. from Whataburger Field in Corpus Christi.
