AUSTIN, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin Lumberjack track and field team closed out the Texas Relays Saturday by running in the finals of the 4X400-meter relay. SFA clocked a time of 3:10.94 to finish fifth overall. The 'Jacks' time was only 94-hundredths of a second shy of an NCAA regional qualifier, and only 32-hundredths of a second short of a school record.
SFA had two athletes competing in events late Friday night. Junior Keith Mahipala recorded a third-place finish in the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase. Mahipala crossed the finish line with a time of 9:14.09 in the event. Sophomore Meredith Blocker recorded a seventh-place finish in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase (11:5169).
SFA returns to action Saturday, April 11, when they travel to Beaumont, Texas to compete in the Ty Terrill Relays. The relays, hosted by Lamar, will be only the second one-day meet of the outdoor season for SFA.
