
SFA Sprinters Strong at Bayou Classic

HOUSTON, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin men's and women's track and field team closed out the 2009 Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic by recording two more individual titles Saturday night. Junior Chris Moody recorded the team's first title of the day by posting a time of 47.88 in the men's 400-meter dash. The men's 4X400-meter relay team recorded the other title by clocking a time of 3:11.88.
SFA showed strong depth throughout the sprints and hurdles Saturday posting eight top-five performances. Junior Silent-Joy Egboba-Waye just missed the team's fourth individual title of the meet when she recorded a time of 14.22 to finish second in the 100-meter hurdles. Freshman Nick McCloud led the Lumberjack hurdlers. He posted a time of 15.01 in the 110 hurdles to finish fifth overall. Freshman Lauren Watts posted a third-place finish (1:04.39) in the women's 400-meter hurdles.
The Ladyjacks posted two top-five finishes in the relays. They clocked a time of 3:51.19 to finish third in the 4X400-meter relay, and a fourth-place finish in the 4X100-meter relay (47.27).
SFA recorded three runner-up finishes in the field events. Freshman Jon Arthur recorded a throw of 52-11.50 in the shot put to finish second overall. Junior Frednisha Marshall was second in the women's hammer throw. She recorded a throw of 169-11. Sophomore Andrew Plentl cleared a height of 6-6.75 to finish second in the men's high jump.
Other SFA athletes who recorded top-five finishes Saturday include juniors Camelia Sams and Josh Cruse, sophomores Kaitlyn Andrews and Adam Wolfe and freshman Macy Wade. Sams finished fifth in the women's triple jump with a mark of 38-1.50. Cruse was fifth overall in the men's high jump (48.1.25). Wade cleared a height of 11-5.75 to finish third overall in the women's pole vault. Andrews finished fourth in the women's shot put, recording a throw of 46-10.75. Wolfe also posted a fourth-place finish in the men's javelin. Wolfe recorded a mark of 183-4 in the event.
