Ownbey Wins 5,000 Meters

HOUSTON, Texas - Sophomore distance runner Mitch Ownbey dominated the men's 5,000 meters Friday night at the Victor Lopez Rice Bayou Classic. Ownbey recorded an individual title when he crossed the finish line with a time of 14:47.03, more than 11 seconds ahead of his closest competition.
Classmate Dennis Yeats finished third in the men's 5,000-meter run. Yeats recorded a time of 15:07.70 in the event. Freshman Stephanie Ganter was the Ladyjacks top finisher in the women's 5,000 meters. Ganter finished sixth overall with a time of 17:09.54.
The Ladyjacks also recorded another top-10 finish on the opening night of the Bayou Classic. Freshman Brittainy Robertson was ninth in the women's 1,500 meters. Robertson crossed the finish line with a time of 4:46.69.
The SFA track and field team returns to action Saturday morning for the final day of action in the Rice Bayou Classic.
