NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin cross country teams have both been named to the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic teams for the 2008 season, according to an announcement released Thursday by the organization. SFA is the only program in the Southland Conference to have both its men's and women's teams named to this year's list.
To make the list, a team must maintain a 3.00 cumulative grade-point average through the fall semester. Each team posted a 3.23 GPA. The Lumberjacks are one of just two men's teams from the South Central Region to make the list, while the Ladyjacks join eight women's teams in the region, finishing just behind Baylor, Rice and Arkansas.
Both SFA squads finished second at the 2008 SLC Championships, marking the eighth consecutive season for at least one of the teams to crack the conference's top two. Two athletes from each squad were named to the All-SLC team.
The Ladyjacks have qualified for the all-academic team in each of the last six seasons.
