FRISCO, Texas - The Southland Conference announced Tuesday that SFA junior Roxana Enica has been named this week's Southland Conference women's tennis Player of the Week after her perfect weekend on the hardcourt.
It is the first-ever such honor for Enica and the first time since Robin Houston earned the award on Feb. 1, 2005 that a Ladyjack has been named the SLC Player of the Week.
Enica anchored the Ladyjacks in both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles action as SFA opened up the 2009 spring season with a win over Louisiana Tech, followed by a 5-2 loss to Houston.
The junior from Constanta, Romania, teamed up with Alina Shazkho to take both No. 1 doubles matches over the weekend and then followed that up with two No. 1 singles wins on her own. She earned a straight-set win (6-1, 6-2) over Louisiana Tech's Ada Makowska on Friday, then rallied to notch a comeback win over Houston's Lucy Forward (4-6, 7-6, 10-8) on Saturday.
Enica and the Ladyjacks will be back in action on the road on Saturday as they face regionally-ranked North Texas in Denton, and will be back at home on Feb. 9 when they face Louisiana-Monroe at the Schlief Tennis Complex.
