FRISCO, Texas - Ladyjacks Arielle Daron and Madison Hanlan have been named the Southland Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week the conference office announced on Monday.
It is the sixth time this season that one school has swept the league's weekly honors, and the second time that SFA has done so after Mary Caitlin Bottles and Ashley Bailey pulled it off on Sept. 21. This week's honor is the first of Daron's career and is the second of the season for Hanlan, who bookends the season with weekly honors after also being named player of the week in the season's first weekend.
Daron averaged 4.10 kills per set over three matches last week, all Ladyjack wins, with her leading the Ladyjacks in kills in two of those three matches. The junior caught fire in the third set of Tuesday's match versus McNeese when she hit 10 of her match-high 17 kills in the third set alone. After picking up eight more kills against Southeastern La. she was nearly perfect on Saturday against Nicholls, netting 16 kills without a single error on 24 swings as SFA closed out the regular season on a three-match win streak.
Hanlan had a standout week defensively for SFA , hitting double-figure digs in each of the three matches, including 22 in a 3-1 win over McNeese. Two days later she added 17 in a win over Southeastern, and added 13 more and four service aces in Saturday's 3-0 sweep of Nicholls. For the week she averaged 5.20 digs per set with the SFA defense holding its three opponents to just .112 hitting.
The three wins on the week for SFA helped the Ladyjacks clinch the No. 3 overall seed in the upcoming Southland Conference Tournament that begins Friday. SFA will take on the host UTSA Roadrunners at 6:30 p.m. on Friday at the Convocation Center.
